Former Highland Capital Partner Joins CRV to Focus on Investments in Wireless Technologies and Services WALTHAM, Mass. (December 10, 2007) – Charles River Ventures (CRV), one of the nation’s leading early-stage venture capital firms, today announced that Jon Auerbach has joined the firm’s East Coast office as a general partner. Auerbach, a former general partner at Highland Capital Partners, brings a proven track record in venture investing and will focus on making investments in wireless technologies and services.
“The partners at CRV are thrilled to have Jon on our team. He has a real talent for recognizing and tapping into new market opportunities and finding the innovators that will lead those markets,” said Bruce Sachs, general partner, Charles River Ventures. “Like all of us at CRV, Jon is very bullish about the continued opportunity in the wireless arena. He will be a great addition as we expand our wireless portfolio, which already includes some of the best companies in the space.”
As a general partner at Highland since 2000, Auerbach was an early and active investor in numerous successful start-ups. He led the firm’s investments in Optasite and TriStar Investors, and co-led the investments in Quattro Wireless and Starent Networks (Nasdaq: STAR). Auerbach is a frequent speaker on wireless trends and technologies worldwide, including industry conferences such as CTIA, WCNC, GSM World, Wireless Ventures and TiECON.
“The CRV partnership holds the same core values as my own – passion for the entrepreneur, deep domain knowledge of the markets they invest in, and a strong work ethic,” said Auerbach. “Plus they have a superb investing platform and one of the best and most respected brands in the industry. I am excited to be joining CRV’s team to help them build on their 3+ decades of successful investing.”
Prior to joining Highland, Auerbach spent over a decade as a technology reporter, editor and foreign correspondent. At The Wall Street Journal, Auerbach focused largely on wireless technology, developing close relationships with many of the world's largest carriers and equipment providers. Auerbach’s writing about technology has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and he was twice chosen as one of the top ten newspaper technology writers in the country. Auerbach earned a joint B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
